Session Formats

The World Microbe Forum program will be presented in live, interactive and on-demand sessions.

  1. Live sessions will be presented fully in real-time. Speakers will present live and take questions via video from the audience.
  2. Interactive sessions will have a live component, including video or text Q&A with presenters and text chatting with other attendees. Interactive sessions have a scheduled start time and programmed on channels.
  3. On-demand sessions are recorded presentations. All Live and Interactive sessions will be offered the day after their presentations. Additionally, new on-demand sessions will be released each day and be  available for 24/7 viewing. FEMS on-demand sessions will be released daily at 6 a.m. CET and ASM on-demand sessions will be released daily at 6 a.m. EST.

Joint General Sessions

Organized by the Joint Program Committee, these sessions focus on a board area of the microbial sciences with high-level, leaders in the field. Joint General Sessions will be presented in an interactive format with audience participation.

Symposia (Interactive)

These sessions address an important issue or research on a particular subject, with a diversity of knowledge and/or points of view presented by 2-4 speakers. Speakers will be available live on video to take questions from the audience for the last 30-minutes of the symposia. ASM symposia will be 90-minutes and FEMS symposia will be 2.5 hours.

Symposia (On-Demand)

These sessions address an important issue or research on a particular subject, with a diversity of knowledge and/or points of view presented by 2-4 speakers. On-demand symposia may also feature oral abstracts. The presentations are recorded. Select speakers from on-demand symposia may be invited to participate in After Chats to take audience questions.

After Chats (Live)

Speakers presenting in on-demand sessions will be available to take live video questions from the audience.

Career Talks (Live)

Informal live presentations that feature microbiologists from a wide variety of careers, sharing information on what they do and how to join their field. These sessions are interactive and presenters will take live questions from the audience.

Course (On-Demand)

Recorded courses feature a series of instructors that cover a selection of related subjects typically presented in a lecture format.

iPosters (Interactive)

Accepted abstracts are scheduled into poster sessions and displayed in the virtual Poster Hall. Attendees may view iPosters on-demand 24/7 or visit the Poster Hall during designated times to schedule video chats with presenters. Attendees may leave comments or email presenters.

Fast-Track (Track Hub) Session (Interactive)

A condensed, 45-minute session with 1-2 speakers on a track-specific topic. Presentations will be recorded and speakers will be available during the scheduled time to take questions via text chat.

Industry & Science Symposia (On-Demand)

These on-demand sessions are exhibitor sponsored symposia released on Sunday, June 20 and Thursday, June 24. Symposia may be 30 or 60-minutes. Attendees may visit exhibitors during their office hours to interact with presenters.

Industry & Science Theater (Live)

These live 20-minute sessions are exhibitor sponsored symposia will take place during dedicated Exhibit Hall hours on Monday, June 21 through Wednesday, June 23. Attendees may ask questions during the presentations or visit exhibitors during their office hours to interact with presenters.

Meet-the-Expert (Live)

One expert addresses an important problem and/or gap in knowledge on a particular subject in short, presentations. Following the presentation, speakers will take live questions from the audience.

Mini Conference On-Demand

An extended recorded session or series of sessions focused on a specific subject area in the microbial sciences.

Plenary (Interactive)

This session format include a lecturer or lecturers whose expertise appeals to a broad audience. The ability to text QA during or after the session will be available.

Rapid Fire (Interactive)

Oral abstract speakers present 10-minute recorded talks. Presenters will be available during the scheduled time to take questions via text chat.

Meet Up (Live)

Meet ups are informal and offer attendees an opportunity to discuss various topics with colleagues and network througout the meeting.
